Developing sustainable cities is the key to solving many of the United Nations’ 2030 goals about climate change, poverty, and inequality, according to an Academy of Management Discoveries article.

“The world is becoming increasingly urban. More and more people are moving to cities,” explained Horacio E. Rousseau of Florida State University. “Job opportunities, economic development, they’re all moving to cities. Poverty, education, gender inequality—regardless of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) you’re talking about, when we are building sustainable cities, what we are doing at the same time is addressing all these other related SDGs. U.N. officials are even contacting mayors of cities and towns to embrace the SDGs. That’s the level at which the SDGs are unfolding.”
